DC Federation of Civic Associations Records
The records include the Federation’s constitution, meeting minutes, and newsletters from many of its member civic associations. It also contains correspondence, reports, clippings, programs, invitations, flyers, legislative materials, handwritten notes, and other records, which document the activities of the Federation.

Biographical / Historical
The Federation of Civic Associations was founded in 1921 and brought together neighborhood groups to address common citywide or regional concerns. Historically, these civic associations were African-American.
The papers were donated in 1986 to the Library by Joseph Carter, the Association’s President at the time.
