Biographical / Historical
The D.C. Civil War Centennial Commission was established in D.C. to coordinate local events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Civil War. The D.C. Commission was part of a national effort to commemorate in 1961 the centennial of the Civil War. The Commission began its work in 1959 and continued to sponsor events throughout the City until 1966.
The Papers were donated to the Library by Paul J. Sedgwick, Chairman of the D.C. Civil War Centennial Commission.
